ARE YOU RESOLUTE?
The word "resolute," is the
root of a very popular word at this time of year: resolution. I know that
we usually make a lot of jokes about New Year’s resolutions. The reason
that it is a laughable subject is that we tend to break them. It is as if
we know that we are going to break them when we make them.
Webster defines being "resolute" as, "Marked by firm
determination, resolved, bold, steady." If we are set on making these
"promises to ourselves," then breaking a New Year’s resolution
is like breaking a promise to ourselves.
At the conclusion of the fifteenth chapter of the book of First Corinthians, the
Apostle Paul encourages the brethren to be "steadfast, unmoveable, always
abounding in the work of the Lord." In other words, we are to be
resolute! Not just at the beginning of the year, but at any time of the year.
Certainly the context is talking about being resolute in the Lord's work, not
about promising to lose x-number of pounds, exercising, saving more money, etc.
It would be my hope that you will consider resolutions that are in keeping with
Paul's admonition, by being more involved in the Lord's work here at Warners
Chapel.
There seems to be a great
deal of enthusiasm and expectation for the coming year. I pray that the
Lord will continue to bless us in the days ahead. Are you resolute.
—Paul
