WHAT WOULD/WILL YOU DO?
It is within human nature to follow one who has demonstrated leadership
capabilities. History has numerous accounts of men who had flee in battle when
their leader is killed or wounded. In these instances, there is confusion and
disorientation, however, there are usually some keep “their wits about them” and
stay the course.
Matthew records the events shortly before the arrest of Jesus where he informs
his disciples of their impending stumble.
Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night:
for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall
be scattered abroad. But after I am risen again, I will go before you into
Galilee. Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended
because of thee, yet will I never be offended. Jesus said unto him, Verily I say
unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee.
Likewise also said all the disciples. (Mt 26:31-35)
We know what happened. It was just as Jesus had predicted. Peter and the other
disciples, except John, abandoned him!
The difference between earthly leaders and our Lord is that our leader rose from
the dead and reigns in his kingdom still! Through all the battles of life we
must keep “our wits about us” and stay the course.
