…the flock…
Many times in the New Testament we see God's
people referred to as a flock of sheep. Now if anyone has ever been around
sheep, it is evident to the observer, for the reason that we are compared to
sheep.
Sheep need a shepherd to lead them and protect them from predators. Sheep are not very picky as to what they eat. They will eat nearly anything that is put in front of them in the way of vegetation. They do not often notice anything that is more than six inches in front of them. They have poor eyesight as well. Those in the body of Christ are often this way. How many times have you seen brethren fall for a philosophy or teaching that is contrary to the word of God, and brethren lap it up like a starving dog.
Sheep are not very wary or observant when it
comes to recognizing dangerous situations. As a result animals can find
sheep easy prey. God has mandated, through the charge to the elders, that
the flock is in their care (cf. Hebrews 13:7, 17; Acts 20:28, etc.).
In order to insure proper vigilance, good shepherds can recognize religious
predators. In addition, good shepherds take special care to insure that
religious predators do not victimize their sheep.
Bible-based leadership wants the very best for the Lord's flock and will take
steps necessary to feed and protect the Flock of God.
