EXCUSES.COM
You would think, with the number of
different excuses that people use to justify not coming to worship, that there
should be a web site called excuses.com serving as a source of their material.
I remember some years ago, hearing an excuse that was offered by a lady who ran
out of cat food and had to go to the grocery store to buy food for her cat.
Now I know that in some households, pets can be seen as part of the family and
some people have a high degree of affection for animals. But, what would happen
if we arise from our beds on some Sunday morning, and would be late for Bible
class if we stopped and had breakfast, would we just decide to come late and go
to Bojangles? Can we not sacrifice a meal for a few hours that we could feast on
spiritual things?
Jesus said, "Labor not
for the meat that perishes but for the meat that endures unto eternal
life." (John 6:27). We can try to use all the excuses we want and it
will still not be enough to convince the Lord that we are doing His will.
Over the years I have heard people complain
about the frequency of coming to worship. In short, what they want to know
is how little can I do to be approved of God. I don't know the answer to
that question. I so know, however, that we are to do "all in the name
of the Lord Jesus" (Colossians 3:17). How much are you willing to
sacrifice for the Lord?
