WHAT TIME IS IT? - Part 1
Solomon wrote, "To everything there is a season, and a time to every
purpose under heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die...A time to weep, and
a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance..." (Ecclesiastes
3:1,4). Many other contrasts are listed in 3:1-8. The idea is that there is an
appropriate time for each in the life of an individual. So what time is now for
us of Warners Chapel? What should we be doing at this time in our nations
history?
We need to be about our Father's business. The events of the recent past should remind us of the uncertainty of life. Several thousand souls unexpectedly lost their lives entering eternity before they had expected. But is this unusual? Yes and no. It is unusual in the way it happened. But it is not unusual in that many people die before they were expected. Just a few hours before writing this article I learned of the death of a gospel preacher as a result of an automobile accident. In hospitals across our land people of all ages are dying.
Why mention all this? The Hebrew writer informed us long ago that "it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). We forget the uncertainty of life and the reality of death until it comes knocking. Jesus came to this work and overcame death. He rose from the grave never to die again. Prior to his ascension to heaven he commissioned the church through the apostles to preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15).
It is time for the church at Warners Chapel to get busy with the message of salvation in Christ. The gospel does not prevent physical death. But it does bring assurance of what will happen beyond the grave. The person who obeys the gospel and lives faithfully, knows that heaven awaits.
So what time is it? It is time to obey Christ. It is time to tell people Jesus died for their sins and how to accept the offer of salvation.
