HOW TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL GOSPEL MEETING

The time for our meeting with brother L.D. Willis is approaching and every member needs to prepare themselves to attend EVERY service.  While we enjoy a good attendance in the Sunday morning services on a regular basis, our evening services lack a similar number. Our meeting has been advertised and it now remains for us to continue to make it a success by our faithfulness.  With this in mind, let me offer two things to which we need to give our attention.

I. THE CHURCH MUST REALIZE ITS RESPONSIBILITY

1.   The efforts of the speaker are certainly important, but there are also responsibilities assigned to the listeners.

2.   The Elders are making the effort to "feed the church," (Acts 20:28) and have taken the lead in presenting a speaker that will edify us.

3.   It is our obligation to support them when spiritual events are
scheduled.

II. THE CHURCH NEEDS TO BE SPIRITUALLY MINDED

1.   The focus of the majority of sermons that have been preached from the pulpit have been centered on our need to be better servants for the Lord.

2.   Our services to God must come from a desire to serve Him out of love and our faithfulness is a thermometer of that love.

3.   Spiritual people will respond obediently when our schedules get tighter and our leisure time seems to get shorter and shorter.

There is a saying that you hear from me from time to time, that I think is most relevant to our discussion. "You can do what you want to."
