FALL

Fall or autumn, as the season is sometimes called, has always been my favorite time of the year.  It is a time when the miserable hot weather begins to fade away and is slowly being replaced by cooler days and nights.  It was a time of football and Trick or Treat.  It was also a time for going back to school!  None of the schools in WV had air conditioning, so some of those early days in the school calendar were still very warm days, but we knew that just around the corner were the cool days when the grass would be full of dew in the morning.

Through the years we have seen the fall of the year compared to the life cycle of human beings as the post middle-age years: a time when our bodies, like the seasons, are beginning to wind down and slowly cool off.  Nearing retirement, we begin to think of what we will do when we retire.  Will we buy a motor home and tour the country?  Will we retire to Florida as many do?  Though these thoughts are important, we need to ask ourselves, "At this time in my life, how can I still serve my Lord?"

There are many opportunities that are coming up quickly that deserve our attention.

125 year Homecoming and celebration      Gospel Meeting with Eddy Craft

There are several Gospel Meetings and other spiritual events that occur in the fall that we could support with our presence and a bit of effort.  Let us all commit to greater service to God in the autumn of our lives.
