THE HOLINESS OF GOD
Theology is the study of God and His relationship to the universe, mankind,
etc. Frankly, many have ignorantly created God in their own image. Here are two
examples, “If God loved us so much, then why would He let people suffer,” or “If
I am a good person and believe in God, then I am going to go to heaven because
God is a God of Love.”
The problem is we can focus on God’s love and fail to understand there is
something much greater to understand about God…His Holiness!!!
Perhaps God’s holiness has been ignored in recent years because of its necessary
association with his justice. If God is truly holy, He must also be just,
punishing sin in order to keep His moral purity (Lev. 11:44; Deu. 18:13; 1 Pet.
1:14-16). We must not ignore the holiness of God, because it is central to all
other attributes of God. The attribute of holiness is above all others, and is
the only attribute in scripture to be raised to the level of triple
pronouncement (Isa.6:3; Rev. 4:8).
His love is a holy love. His grace is a holy grace. His anger is a holy anger.
His justice is a holy justice. We can be certain when we all fall before Him and
worship Him in the Great Day of judgment, we will be bowing down before a Holy
God and confessing the name of His Son to His glory (Phil. 2:10, 11).
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory” – Isaiah 6:3.
