A Warning from the Elders
Paul summed the work of elders in his charge to the elders from Ephesus in a meeting on the isle of Miletus. He told them –
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, nor sparing the flock. Also of you own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. (Acts 20:28-31).
The elders’ responsibility is to watch and feed or “shepherd” (NKJV) the church. They watch for “wolves” who will not spare but devour the flock. The charge to watch also requires they issue a warning whenever danger presents itself. This article is issued to warn the congregation about a dangerous wolf nearby.
Jeff Walling, the preacher for the Providence Road church in Charlotte, NC is the keynote speaker for an upcoming youth rally at the Northview congregation in Statesville. Brother Walling is not a faithful gospel preacher and should not be supported by the members of Warners Chapel whether young or old.
The following is a short list of his false teachings:
Members of the Lord’s church will not be the only ones saved, yet Ephesians 4:4 states there is one body (the church Ephesians 1:22, 23) and Jesus is the Savior of the body (Ephesians 5:23). The Lord added to the church “daily those who were being saved” (Acts 2:47 NKJV). There is no salvation promised to anyone outside of the body, the church, of our Lord.
Jeff Walling also teaches the participation of women in the active public roles of teaching or preaching and leading prayers in worship assemblies. This is in clear contradiction with I Timothy 2:8-15 and I Corinthians 14:34. To teach differently than Paul did under the guidance of the Holy Spirit is sin.
Another example of his disrespect for the authority of the scriptures is his belief that the use of mechanical instruments of music in worship is a matter of opinion. Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16 authorize singing. The New Testament nowhere authorizes the use of mechanical instruments in the worship to God.
These and many other examples of false teaching on the part of Jeff Walling show he is not a preacher faithful to the word of God and thus, a false teacher. 2 John 9-11 states, “Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.”
To attend an event where Jeff Walling is preaching or teaching is to violate the teaching of 2 John 9-11. Therefore, the elders of Warners Chapel feel it necessary to warn the congregation about brother Walling’s teaching and the danger present at the Northview youth rally.
