OUR FREEDOM
At the writing of this article, there are men and women around the world that
are fighting to maintain the freedoms that this country enjoys and many times
abuses or takes for granted.
This country was founded on religious freedom. Those initial settlers came here to escape the tyranny and oppression of state-directed religion. It was in the minds of the framers of the constitution that this nation would formulate laws to maintain this separation and to promote freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. Those in the ACLU seem to have an agenda to manipulate the laws to eradicate participation in any form of religious acts or holding and sharing views of religion.
Jesus guaranteed freedom from the bondage of sin. “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32) Paul said that we should “stand fast, therefore in the liberty for which Christ hath made us free.” (Galatians 5:1)
Though we know that we have liberty in Christ, that does not give us license to do whatever we want. The epistles of the New Testament are not a collection of “love letters,” they are a collection of letters that instructed the early church and also provided correction for existing problems. As such, they still remain just as authoritative and binding in the twenty-first century. These spiritual freedoms are still worth “fighting” for.
