EVERYDAY LIVING

We must be true to God in our everyday living.  Christianity is not something we do, rather, it is a way of life.  The scriptures teach us there is a high cost to following Jesus.  It involves giving ourselves completely to Him.  “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me”
(Matt. 16:24) “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple”
(Lk. 14:26,27).

Sometimes Christians make the mistake of thinking their responsibilities to God end following Sunday services.  On the Lord’s day they act, talk and look like Christians only to live as sinners the rest of the week.  This is not pleasing to God.  In everyday living we must strive to become as much like Jesus as we possibly can.  Instead of pretending to be Christians on Sunday, we need to show we belong to Christ each day.  In Galatians 2:20, Paul wrote, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me, and gave himself for me.” This needs to be our attitude as well.

Being true to God in everyday living is not always easy.  It means we will have to say no to the temptations of sin.  It means we will have to make sacrifices of our time, money and energies.  But, in the end, being true to God means we will have everlasting life.  “Therefore my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmovable, always abounding the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (I Cor. 15:58).
