SPIRITUAL AILMENTS (1)

Many times we see spiritual analogies in common or mundane situations in life. I am beginning short series devoted to spiritual ailments being compared to common physical ailments.

HYPOCHONDRIA

Awe might define Hypochondria as "morbid anxiety as to one's own health, while conjuring up imaginary ailments." Some people imagine they have been mistreated; they take their exercise jumping to conclusions. Some imagine they cannot do things for the Lord. Their defeat is due to mental outlook.

They are like the ten spies and the one-talent man. "But the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we." And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature." (Numbers 13:31). "And I was afraid and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours." (Matt 25:25)

How many times have opportunities been lost because we conjured up some excuse, when we were simply afraid. the way to overcome our fears is to face it.
