CAROLINA LECTURES

As you read this article, the fifty-ninth Carolina Lectureship is history.  This means that in fifty-one weeks the sixtieth lectureship will begin here at Warners Chapel.  This event will present opportunities for everyone in the congregation to get involved for its success.  The following are a few areas of need:

Prayer.  As the elders prepare for the lectureship, they need all the prayers we can offer. The lectureship will involve approximately 31 lessons.  Each of these lessons will be chosen around a specific theme or book of the Bible.  The theme will need to be one which is timely, addressing some area or book appropriate to our times. Once this theme is determined, speakers will be chosen to present each lecture.  The elders need your prayers as this important step is taken.

Housing.  Many of the people attending the lectureship, both speakers and listeners, will travel some distance to be with us.  Opening up your home to one or more people will make it easier for some to attend.  Joshua and I stayed with Jason Allen last year when Cary hosted the lectureship.  This is an opportunity to get to know someone now  that you will spend eternity with.  Friendships that last throughout life and into eternity have been, and will be, formed by those opening up their homes.

Preparation and serving of meals.  Traditionally the hosting congregation serves the noon meal each day during the lectureship.  This will require some planning and a lot of volunteers to accomplish.  In addition to preparing and serving, there is the need for volunteers to clean up after each meal and get things ready for the next day.

Taping and duplicating the lectures.  The audio taping and duplicating of the lectureship is one way the effectiveness of this effort is expanded. Those unable to attend the daytime sessions can obtain a tape and listen as they travel in their cars or work around the house, etc.  This can only happen if someone is willing to operate the tape machine during the lectures and then someone to make the copies on the duplicating machine.

These are but a few areas which will need attention between now and the time the lectures begin in April 2004.  What can you do to contribute to the success of this effort that God may be glorified and the edified?  Talk with the elders and let them know what you can and will do.
