IDENTITY CRISIS

Throughout this brief series we have identified and refuted several characteristics wherein congregations of the Lord’s church have digressed from Scriptural authority.  These alone should cause us to heed the command of Paul in Ephesians 5:14, “Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.”

However, there are dozens of practices among our brethren that have not been examined in these articles that need to be cast alongside God’s word to be shown to be erroneous. My intent in these vignettes has been to re-acquaint us with a reoccurring problem.  We make quite a fuss over the religious division in the world and yet many of our brethren are making unwise and heretical decisions that will undoubtedly continue to blur the lines.  When one starts to blur the lines it usually is not too far a stretch until the lines will have been completely erased.

There certainly is an identity crisis among churches of Christ.  Those who continue to push the envelope and strive to cater to the masses at the expense of biblical authority will be the ones to whom the Lord will not recognize as His children.  Not only do we have the obligation to serve God in Spirit and in truth be we also have the obligation to expose them for the impostors that they are.
