To The Work - 2
Last week’s article began a look at some of the works available for every member
to participate in. The involvement of every member is vital to the work of the
church in serving God. Paul wrote that every member is important to the
overall work of the body. Consider the following from the New King James:
For in fact the body is not one member but many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be? But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it (1 Corinthians 12:14-26).
We encourage you to find an area or areas of work to
participate in. If you could not find something from the list last week,
consider some of the options to follow. Join a building cleanup group.
Members of each team get together once a month to clean the main building and
the annex. Depending on the team’s decision, they may meet for a potluck meal,
order pizza, or go to an area restaurant for a meal together. Not only does
the building get a needed cleaning before Sunday morning classes and worship,
the team members also are involved in a period of fellowship.
Become a part of our teaching program. We need people to teach Bible
classes for our Sunday and Wednesday class times. In addition to teachers
there is a need for teacher’s helpers for class preparation and during
the class period. The teaching program also needs teachers and helpers for
our Vacation Bible School held the first full week of June each year. Vacation
Bible School starts on Sunday evening and ends Thursday evening. Your
participation as a teacher or helper can be for one night, five nights, or
any part of the week. See Bill Carothers or one of the elders if you are
interested in participating in our teaching program.
Vacation Bible School needs more than teachers and helpers. We also need
people willing to work “behind the scenes.” We need people to setting
up class rooms, decorate class rooms, provide and or serve refreshments in the
annex after each session, clean up each night, register visitors, and invite and
bring as many visitors as possible. Remember that V. B. S. is not just for
kids. There is an adult class taught in the auditorium each evening, and
they get refreshments after class also!
