PRO-CHOICE?
The term “Pro-Choice” is well known in America today. It seems to be a
very good attitude if you think of it in terms of “pro” which means “for,
in favor” (The Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus, page 1188) and “choice”
means “the power or opportunity to choose” (Oxford, page 244). God has
always allowed humans the opportunity to choose. Adam and Eve of course
chose to disobey God and the consequences are still felt today. Israel was
offered the choice of life and death as they stood poised to enter the
Promised Land. Moses said, “I call heaven and earth to record this day
against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing:
therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live” (Deuteronomy
30:19). There was a right choice and a wrong choice, but they were allowed
to make it.
Today society is offered a choice about the unborn, whether to give birth or
“end the pregnancy” by removing “the fetus.” This “choice” is
one that should not be offered, and certainly not exercised. The
“choice” which should be made is to not begin a new life in the womb. The
cause of pregnancy has long been known; so if a child is not desired, do not
engage in the activity that results in conception. If one chooses to
engage in that activity and an unwanted pregnancy results, abortion is not the
only choice. The child can be placed for adoption with a couple who want a
child but for some reason are unable. This is the true “Pro-Choice”
choice, choose life.
