To The Work

To the work is our theme for the 2001.  The elders established the theme with the goal of involving every member in the works of the church.  Paul described the church as the body of Christ (Colossians 1:18).  He wrote the Romans concerning the body,  “For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another” (Romans 12:4,5).  He went on to encourage each member to use their God given abilities in the work of the body.  The Lord wants the same here at Warners Chapel.

What can you do?  You can participate in the zone program.  Each zone sponsors a meal for visitors following Sunday morning services.  This meal allows visitors get to know some of us and feel a little more comfortable with the church.  It also helps us get to know them and answer questions they may have.  An added benefit is the opportunity to become better acquainted with church members.  The zones also take turns preparing food for families in time of need such as sickness or a death in the family.  Every member is in one of the four zones.  If you are not presently active in the zone program, get involved.  If you are not sure which zone you are in ask one of the elders and find out, then plan to stay for the next meal your zone sponsors.

Another opportunity for members is the work program.  This involves participating in a monthly meeting for a devotional lesson and finger foods or meal depending on the group’s decision.  Each group is headed by a captain who is responsible for the scheduling of the meeting and devotional lesson.  At the meeting you receive an assignment to complete before the next meeting.  No one is asked to do something they are not comfortable with.  Presently Mark Minor and Andy Santiago are overseeing the work program, so see either of them or an elder if you want to participate.

A third area you can involve yourself in the work is by supporting the Children’s Home in Korat, Thailand.  Brother L. D. Willis has a long relationship with the home and knows the administration well.  D. C. Mock has visited there and is very impressed with the work they are doing.  The biggest need is financial help.  Warners Chapel contributes to the home, so all you need do is give a contribution to the elders and tell them it is for the Thailand Children’s Home.  Another way to help is go over with L. D. Willis and D. C. Mock on their next trip.

Yet another area of work is the Children’s Home in Virginia.  A list of non-perishable items is published in the bulletin weekly.  Buy something on the list, place it in the closet on the south side of the building wing, and Andy Santiago will box everything up and ship them to the home.

The Lord’s people “are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16).  How is your light shining?
