An Asset To The Brotherhood
I have a debt of gratitude to express for
the East Tennessee School of Preaching. Twenty years ago this June, I
graduated from this school which had given me the tools necessary to fulfil my
responsibility as a child of God who wanted to preach. I was by no means,
anyone’s’ definition of a “Bible Scholar.” Though I had a great
zeal for preaching and serving the Lord’s church, I had very little experience
in these areas. In time, I was able to continue to study and to grow as
Peter commands: “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ.” As was mentioned before, ETSP had given me the tools. Not
only to begin, but my education there gave me the tools to be equipped to build
on the foundation I had received.
The ETSP annual lectureship, held the first
week in March, is important to me because it enables me to “recharge my
batteries.” Every year the lectureship draws hundreds of brethren from
many states that appreciate the balance that is presented from the pulpit there.
We live in an era where many want to change the nature of the Lord’s church
and many congregations have fallen prey to this movement. I am thankful
that there are still brethren who will oppose this affront to Biblical authority
and provide a wonderful example of steadfastness and determination to “keep
the old paths.”
