WHY I WANT TO BE A BETTER SINGER/SONG
LEADER
There are some who will say that they "can't carry a tune in a bucket."
Fortunately for them, God doesn't require us to be able to be on perfect pitch
on every note [and fortunately for everyone else as well, whew!] But that does
not release us from the responsibility to sing in worship service. If it is
commanded of us to "sing and make melody in our hearts to God (Ephesians 5:19),
and it is, then we ought to make every effort to sing praises to God, the best
way we can. What is wrong with trying to improve our ability to read a few
notes so that our pitch is correct and following the pitch of the song leader?
Do we not have classes from time to time that emphasize the mechanics of other
aspects of worship? Such as:
Learning how to pray?
Having a greater appreciation for the Lord's Supper?
Lessons presented on giving of our means?
Classes and seminars on teaching?
Since it is the case that we have these presentations on the other acts of
worship, then it logically follows that we need a class on singing and song
leading. I hope that you will give brother Jones your complete cooperation and
participation as the week progresses.
