THE NEW YEAR
The new year is here and advancing every
day. As you read this article, we are already 12 days - nearly
two weeks, into the year 2003. What are you planning on doing this year?
Have you planned out your vacation schedule? Will the kids participate in
t-ball, little league, scouts, etc.? Will family or friends from out of
town be visiting? What will you do for the Lord this year?
The elders will be
presenting the plan of work for Warners Chapel in 2003 in a week or two. What
will you do with your copy? You could give it a quick glance and then file
it “somewhere” never to be seen again. Or you could get it out and
read it with a determined view to do all you can in making this year a
successful one. For example you can look up the dates for events such as
gospel meetings, the youth rally, and the leadership seminar and mark them on
your calender. Then when vacation plans are finalized make sure the dates
do not conflict with these special efforts of the congregation.
Another thing you can do is
remind others in the congregation of these special efforts. Remember the
words of Hebrews 10:24, “let us consider one another to provoke unto love and
good works.” Talk with others to remind them of up-coming opportunities
for worship, study, edification and
service and encourage them to take advantage of this special time. You can
do this by making a phone call, writing a note, making a visit, or mentioning it
while talking before or after services.
The elders put forth the
effort to plan the year’s work with some special times. Make the
commitment to take advantage of them and encourage others to do so as well.
