New Year 2001
The hymn “To The Work” opens with the following: “To the work! To the work! We are servants of God, Let us follow the path our that our Master has trod.” As the new year begins, let us resolve to do as the song encourages; follow the path Jesus trod while living on this earth, one of service to others. Jesus summed up His life this way: “Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister” (Matthew 20:28).
What can you do this year to serve? Talk with Todd and fill out one of the volunteer sheets. It lists several areas of work needed in Warners Chapel. You can also commit yourself to participation in the zone program. Every zone has an elder designated to lead it. Once a month each zone sponsors the meal after Sunday morning worship. The zones also provide meals for grieving families after the funeral of a loved one. Another area of service is our work program. The program consists of four teams, each meeting once a month for a devotional, fellowship and assignments. Each worker then has until the next month to complete the work assigned. After four months the teams are reorganized and the process continues.
Warners Chapel also needs you to help with cleaning the building. The deacons have devised a new plan for cleaning. Instead of individuals signing up to clean different weeks, all who help are placed on a team and clean once a month. On the weeks with 5 Sundays all are invited to assemble and deep clean the entire building. With team cleaning the work is done quickly and well. Make no mistake, this work is important for the church. The first impression on visitors is often the condition of the building when they first walk in. An added benefit is the money saved by cleaning the building ourselves is used to sponsor the Search television program on Saturday evenings. The speaker, Mack Lyon, does an excellent job in applying the scriptures to current events and addressing people’s concerns.
You also need to mark the fifth Sundays in 2001 for our Friends and Family outreach efforts. We need you to invite as many people as possible to worship with us those mornings and stay for the congregational meal after services. These events are special efforts designed to reach those unfamiliar with the Lord’s church. The meal is a good time to see if they have questions and encourage them to visit again. Are you committed to following the path that our Master has trod”?
